Revisiting the Past to Revise the Present
🎙️ New episode: How a college reunion helped with my memoir revision
Hey Bleeders,
This week on the pod, I shared a quick solo update from the road. I was on my way home from a college reunion with my old theater crew from Stephens College, and it ended up being a powerful tool for revising my debut memoir Girl Gone Wild.
It turns out revisiting the people and places from your past can double as actual and emotional fact-checking. I walked the campus, hit my old haunts in Columbia and St. Louis, and found myself tapping into memories that are now strengthening the manuscript before it heads to galleys. Honestly, it’s been kind of magical.
Takeaway for the memoirists out there: If you have the chance to return to a place you’re writing about—or go to a reunion—do it. You might just reopen a portal to your former self and gain a clearer view of how you’ve grown.
